I have to write a research paper by morning. I was told it has to be a good research paper. I said to it, “Look, if you promise to be a good research paper I’ll take you to the zoo, and throw you to the lions. Just kidding! I’ll throw you to the monkeys instead”.

It continues being naughty. Parenting is more difficult than I imagined. What do you do when your papers don’t behave?

Get drunk and um, denounce the research paper or let the other half take care of it. That doesn’t even make sense.

Research on what? What’s the topic? 😮

    Why specifically Japanese Literature?

Dude, that’s just so bizarre. What do they have against writing horizontally?

    • Haseeb Asif says:

Cause that’s the course title. If I wrote on Herbert Spencer or something the instructor would probably fail me, though I suppose I could argue he was Japanese, he had those beady little eyes.

It’s not really their fault, they use the Chinese script. You can blame them, but then again, they constitute the majority of the world’s population so maybe it’s everyone else who has it wrong?

What is the most interesting thing about Japanese Literature? The only thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word “japanese” is “animes” – One Piece to be precise. Meh!!

Hm, there is a thought. Is there any other language except for Mandarin, Chinese and Japanese that uses the chinese script?

The interesting thing is that it is actually rather good. Because the concept of a novel came to them, from the West, at the same time as urbanization and the two world wars, they put into words all the personal alienation and social chaos they went through in making the transition from an agrarian to an industrial to a post apocalyptic nuclear holocaust mutant zombies aah! kill, kill, kill society in a matter of decades.

They also embraced post-modernism like a long lost aunt. Murakami’s surreal and absurd works are unlike anything I’ve ever read.

Ah! That sounds interesting. I have Murakami but I have yet to read it.

Did you submit your research paper? 😛

    • Haseeb Asif says:

Of course not! But I made an excellent excuse. You see I was sitting there, paper written, ready to click on ‘send’ when all of a sudden I fell asleep, and I’m still asleep and will e-mail the paper as soon as I wake up. I wonder why the instructor hasn’t replied with, “that’s okay” yet.
